How Cruse benefits the community

No matter how successful current initiatives may be in improving the health and well-being of communities, and no matter how effective health and social care services become, death - and bereavement - remain inescapable.

In Cornwall, some five to six thousand people die every year and a Cruse Survey revealed that at least three people are closely affected by each death.

Many bereaved people cope with the help of family and friends but estimates of the incidence of ‘complex grief’, suggests that many others may benefit from some form of external support. This can range from information or reassurance about the nature or normality of their experiences, to attending a support group, individual support and/or counselling.

Should medication be required or other support at primary care level, such as the the assistance of psychiatric services, Cruse support and help is available. As in other aspects of health and social care, early intervention and support can avert more serious consequences.
